The eye is worked in champlevé: a recessed cavity carved into the almond-shaped silver base and flooded with hand-applied enamel, the uncarved metal left raised as the frame. Its pointed almond outline mirrors an open human eye, with the traditional concentric blue-and-white centre meant to stare back at and deflect an envious glance.
